Music all day. That's all I do.

ionyee asked: As you are in the studio right now writing this new album, what direction lyrically is this album going? Also how many tracks roughly do you think are going to be on the album?

Lyrically, this album is by far some of the most intense and real shit I’ve ever heard. Craig has really opened up and peeled away the layers to just pour everything he has into the words. That’s where most music lacks, in my opinion. The lyrics on this album are the purest, and most unaltered expression in the truest form possible.

Anonymous asked: Who is your celebrity crush (male and/or female)?

My celebrity crush is Emma Stone (female). My male celeb crush is Zach Galifianakis

tommymaung asked: are you open to other up and coming bands? oh and btw. i think your screams are so legit and original. whats your technique?

of course! I love hearing and learning about new talent. Gotta keep up on what’s fresh. Thanks for the kind words on my screamin’ duties. I can’t even explain what the proper technique is because I’m not even really sure what it is. It’s a matter of finding the right way to do it so you: 1) don’t spit up blood, 2) don’t shit your pants, 3) sound original doing it.

riseitup asked: Is it awkward that Tanner Wayne is now drumming for chiodos while you are in a new band with Craig.

Not at all. I love Tanner like he’s a little brother and I always will. Very excited for what he’s doing. The dude has undeniable talent and he deserves the world.

letgoofyoursorrowfulgroaning asked: So is this new record you, Craig, Matt and Aaron are working on going to be a full time project which will continue to tour and release records, or is it just a one time thing like Isles and Glaciers and Cin Sun? I must say though, regardless of that, I am so fucking stoked for it!

This is a full-time band that we are all committing our time to 100%. We will be touring non-stop for the release of the record.

Anonymous asked: Where is 'No Direction Home' from, and what does it mean?

It’s from a Bob Dylan documentary that Martin Scorsese did. I highly recommend watching it. It’s a brilliant look into the early years of Dylan and what he accomplished.

Los Angeles, Jersey Shore, Jay Leno, & Ear Infections

It’s been awesome out here so far. The joys of recording an album on the west coast during the summertime is really a blessing. The weather has been impeccable and our energy has been in a positive light.

Here are some random things that I’ve come across and experienced so far:

  • I’ve seen Darlene from the TV show “Roseanne” twice at the Starbucks I goto. Have I spoken to her? No. She seems intimidating.

  • Jay Leno was driving behind me at one point in what looked like to be a fuckin rocket ship. I’ve never seen anything like it. He then proceeded to race around me and jet off at about 3,000 MPH.

  • John Feldmann, our producer, makes the best coffee I’ve ever had, hands down.

  • I’ve seen the movie “Inception” twice while being out here and I love it. Leo is a real dream boat.

  • We’ve been writing and recording the most amazing songs I’ve ever been a part of. The amount of talent that oozes out of everyone around me is mind blowing. Couldn’t be more happy right now.

  • I’ve been swimming a lot which has been awesome with this beautiful weather. The not so awesome part is that I have an ear infection now.

  • Been learning how to play slide guitar a bit and I love it. The not so awesome part is I cut my finger open and that has presented little challenges here and there with playing. But fuck it, right? Bring the pain.

  • I’ve been keeping up on the new season of Jersey Shore. I won’t lie, it’s extremely entertaining to watch drunk idiots make fools out of themselves. I’m a sucker for cheesy, mindless reality TV at times.

That’s about it for right now. I’ll be answering more questions soon on this Tumblr, so ask away!!

Peace, Love, Hatred, Nick <3

hellomsapodaca asked: Hello(: I just started following you:D Okay so what was your first reaction when Craig asked you to join him?

SCENE DETAIL: Nick & Craig hanging out in Craig’s living room. Sportscenter is blaring on the TV. Cold beers in hand. Nick & Craig begin conversing.

Nick: Dude, how good was LOST last night?

Craig: It’s melting my brain. Let me show you this website that explains everything, dude!

SCENE DETAIL: 20 minutes go by staring at a computer screen and talking about the TV show, LOST.

Nick: Wow! That makes total sense. I want to get John Locke’s face tattooed on me somewhere — the good John Locke though, not the bad one.

Craig: You’re lame.

Nick: Yeah, I guess so. Want to be in a band together, even though we’ve been in 2 bands together already?

Craig: Alright, lets do it. But first, you have to play me in Catch Phrase..

SCENE DETAIL: Nick & Craig play Catch Phrase. Nick loses. They then begin to start writing music together for new band.

END STORY

Anonymous asked: Where do you get your inspiration for writing?

I’m inspired by everything. And when i say everything, I literally mean all facets of life and music really. Quite honestly, I’m at peak inspiration when I’m listening to music. As a musician, I’ve come to realize that if you want to be a “true” musician, you have to appreciate all aspects and types of music. I grew up in a household where my family listened to so many different types of music that I never thought in genres. One minute I was listening to Queen, the next minute I’m listening to traditional Mariachi music, or I’m shaking my ass to Motown music. My father has THE most extensive vinyl collection out of anyone I’ve known, to this day. It spans every single type of music you can think of — and that’s what I grew up on.

I carry that with me everyday as a musician because I know that to be a successful musician you have to a massive appreciator of music. When I write music, I go to another place for it. I specifically engulf myself with the likes of Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Michael Jackson, The Clash, & so on. I want to be inspired from a different realm of music so that I’m not replicating the usual process of what, I feel, most music in this “scene” is doing. I want Bob Dylan’s honesty in lyrics. I want Stevie Wonder’s incredible sense of grooves & rhythm. I want Freddy Mercury’s charisma to shine through musically. And the list goes on..

You can be inspired by music and filter that through to what you’re writing. That’s the difference of ripping off another band & being inspired by another band.

Did I answer your question? I hope so. Haha.
